I saw this sign when I was coming from the park with my daughter. My actually thought when I saw this sign is what has Britain come to when signs like these have to be put up. It also remineds me of the many news stories I have been reading about lead theft; plus working in construction and on a site I have saw what people would do to steal lead.
The story below published on BBC News website on 15th June 2012 shows how low these thieves would go:
A Nottinghamshire school has been forced to close after a ceiling collapsed when thieves stripped lead from the roof.
A large section of the ceiling came down in a classroom at Priestsic Primary School in Sutton-in-Ashfield at about 03:00 BST on Friday.
About 500 children have been told to stay home while the building is inspected.
The theft also led to flood damage inside the building.
Head teacher Tracey Wilson said the area affected was a carpet play area for five-year-olds.
“We are very relieved it happened in the middle of the night and not at nine o’clock when the children were here.
“We have a local company making it safe for the time being but then we’ll have the local authority arrive to have a look to make sure the rest of the building is safe to open, hopefully next week.”
